Letter from Samuel P. Fitch, New London, Conn., to brother Theophilus W. Fitch, Hyde Park, Vt., containing news concerning relatives and events of War of 1812 including: death of an aunt Tucker, Ephraim Tucker visit, Jonathan Mudd probably still living in Franklin, Conn., Commodore Stephen Decatur being driven upriver and the names of his ships, New London fort is in good order after President Adams had it repaired, Groton fort is decayed, most of state's artillery was called in but has been sent back to guard the coast, believes enemy will try landing but meet a strong defense, two attempts made to blow up blockading squadron, one which failed with a vessel loaded with gunpowder, the other dealing with underwater activity but no acount of it, and New London is stripped of goods.
